Career Aspiration
I want to be a cytogenetic technologist or a genetic counselor. I want to learn how people are different from others and animals. I also want to learn about the DNA in our bodies and how it is different from those who live in the wild. Cytogeneticists find switches that can change how someone or something looks and see if it can be triggered to form a new species, like the iguanas in the Galapagos Islands. I want to help those who have genetic disorders and to see what part of the DNA is causing it. They also help people to see the possible outcomes of the next new born child to see if it will have a mutation in its DNA that will cause an illness or a disorder. Some requirements I must have are, "problem-solving skills, ability to focus on tasks, detail-oriented, good judgement capabilities, and strong communication skills. I must graduate with a Bachelor's degree". The classes I must take in high school are "biology, chemistry, physics, algebra, and geometry; if available, I must take biotechnology" to be a cytogenetic technologist. To be a genetic counselor I must require the following, "attention to detail, curiosity, and the ability to listen, empathize, and explain." I must graduate with a masters degree, I must take the :following classes: biology, chemistry, algebra, geometry, calculus, English, a foreign language, sociology." Many ways to accomplish what I want to be when I grow up.
